The Maltese Cross is named after the island of Malta. It was home to the Knights of St. John during the Crusades. The Knights were known for their charitable work i.e.: caring for the sick and injured and their ability to fight fires. This cross symbolizes the values of the Knights of St. John i.e.: Charity, Loyalty and protection of the weak.
