Collection: National Museum of History Guadalajara It is believed that he was born in Guadalajara in the early eighteenth century, Nicolás Enríquez was one of the best painters of the colonial era in Mexico and was active between 1722 and 1770.
Together with José de Ibarra, he founded the Academy of Painting in Mexico City that was later directed by the Rodriguez Juarez brothers.
Enríquez is mentioned twice by the “Gaceta de México”, an important publication of his time that refers to the painter’s work as magnificent and of very high value.
